Springvale District Court

Springvale, Maine

The existing Springvale District Court was described as "the dreariest and most decrepit of the state's 31 district courts." PDT Architects' site selection process evaluated 27 parcels of land, but city business owners wanted the courthouse to stay in the village center. When the Nasson College campus became available, city planners seized the opportunity to locate civic buildings on this attractive site.

The new courthouse site is on the edge of the campus, with frontage on Main Street, adjacent to the newly expanded public library, with ample parking for both in the redesigned campus lots behind them. The building's corner entrance maintains a civic presence on the street, anchoring renewed downtown development.
